Description
Andean Forest is a two-day program leaving the Plaza de Curarrehue.
Day 1
The local guide will receive visitors in the morning in Curarrehue square to welcome and present the program. They will travel by vehicle to Locofilo. The homeowner will present his experience of working with sheep: Methods of breeding, race, wool, etc. The visit will continue in the craft workshop of one of his daughters, who elaborates his work with the same wool of the field.
Subsequently, the group will move to the kitchen of Anita Epulef, renowned guardian of the local Mapuche cuisine, who will offer a menu based on local products from the orchards and fruits of the native forest, rescuing ancestral recipes from her family.
After lunch the tour continues through the upper area of the Carileufu River where a young Mapuche entrepreneur will explain his work to collect seeds from the native forest. Here the process of reproduction and reforestation with native species will be shown, in addition to visiting the nursery, the garden and part of the forest they are reforesting.
The day ends in a house of a community family where they will dine and stay.
Day 2
After a country breakfast, the local guide will pick up and transfer the visitor to start the trekking through the Peñihue hill, a sacred place for the Camilo Coñuequir Lloftonekul community, due to its importance in the historical collection of food such as the Araucaria pine nut. The route starts from an ancestral path that crosses a Patagonian Andean forest in the highlands of the mountain range.
You can admire beautiful species of Nothofagus and a magnificent primary Coihue forest.
In the highest part you will visit a forest of Araucarias, one of the most primitive forests on the planet. The guide’s talk during the journey will be focused on the formation of the territory and the different migrations that occurred.
You will have lunch at the highest point of the hill with a panoramic view of the volcanoes with possibilities of sighting condors. The day ends with the return to the Plaza de Curarrehue.
