Description
The Ascent Llullaillaco Volcano, which in the Aymara language means “hot water”, is located between the Province of Salta and the Region of Antofagasta, on the border of Argentina with Chile, within the margins of the homonymous national park of the latter country.
The surroundings are very beautiful, highlighting the small streams that run between bofedales and coironales in the gorges. You can see guanacos, donkeys and the odd bird. There are two routes of ascent by Chile quite obvious and that do not require climbing of any type, except for some very simple steps when arriving at the summit.
The north route allows to reach the 4600m in vehicle while the south allows to reach about 5000m. In both it is necessary to cross large snowfields with hard snow, so it is recommended to wear crampons and walking ax.
